Pop-outs and Pick-outs

Pop-outs and pick-outs are characterized by the loss of individual stones from both asphalt and concrete surfaces. Stone loss of this sort most often occurs in aged pavements which have become brittle and/or in cases where individual stones are not compatible with the mix material.

The appearance of pop-outs and pick-outs can foretell the future development of raveling.

Pavemetrics® Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS®-2) automatically detects individual pop-outs and pick-outs and reports the area, bounding box and perimeter for each along with an image of the pavement showing locations high-lighted in red.
