Pavemetrics technology enables the automatic detection and evaluation of road features to optimize the use of road maintenance funds and to improve safety through better road surface maintenance. Our automated inspection technology is designed for both day and night time operation. It produces high resolution 2D images and 3D profiles of both asphalt and concrete road surfaces at speeds up to 100 km/h.
The Laser Road Imaging System (LRIS) is designed to increase the contrast and visibility of both small longitudinal and lateral road cracks.
The system uses both high speed/high resolution linescan cameras in conjunction with high power laser line projectors that are aligned in a symmetrically crossed optical configuration. This particular configuration offers several advantages as compared to more traditional imaging technique.
The two linescan cameras and lasers are configured to image 4m transverse road sections with 1 mm resolution (4000 pixel) or 0.5mm (8000 pixel option) at speeds that can reach 100 km/h.
Using high power laser line projectors and special collection optics, the LRIS system can operate in full daylight because it minimizes the effects caused by variations in outside lighting conditions and shadows cast by roadside objects, viaducts and the inspection vehicle itself.
