Patching

Patches are a common maintenance treatment that can be found on every kind of pavement surface. Patches are sometimes put in place following underground utility work (a utility cut patch) or to fill a pothole.

From a Pavement Management standpoint, patches typically require recording with their location, dimensions and condition reported.

Pavemetrics® Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS®-2) new Patch Detection module helps to automate this task. This new module processes range (3D) and intensity image (2D) in order to detect patches on both asphalt and concrete surfaces.

Patch location, area, bounding box and FHWA-based severity rating are reported in XML for each detected patch. A variety of matching images showing detected patches as highlighted are also output.
